Lugar Center Staff Member Invited to Present at International Telemedicine Conference

Lugar Center for Rural Health staff member invited to present at international telemedicine conference Stephanie Laws, R.N., BSN, Manager of the Telehealth and Innovative Technologies Department with the Richard G. Lugar Center for Rural Health at Union Hospital, has been invited to present at the 2012 17th Annual International Meeting and Exposition of the American Telemedicine Association (ATA), to be held April 29th through May 1st in San Jose, CA.

Ms. Law's presentation, entitled A Cost-Benefit Analysis among Medicare and Medicaid Recipients Receiving Telecardiology Care in a Rural Setting was determined by ATA reviewers to be "an extremely relevant topic" highlighting a return on investment model of telemedicine programs which is "critical to (the) adoption and sustainability of telemedicine programs, as well as support in this period of healthcare reform."

Ms. Laws is also the Director of Union Hospital's Wabash Valley Rural Telehealth Network (WVRTN), which provides internet-based and live video telemedicine consultations to bridge the gap for the provision of much-needed specialty services to rural providers. WVRTN services range from asthma and diabetes education to tele-mental health, neurology, tele-cardiology, pediatric burn follow-up care, and stroke treatment.
