Union Partners with Shriners Hospital for Children

Union Hospital in Terre Haute and Clinton have partnered with Shriners Hospitals for Children® — Cincinnati, through a telemedicine connection to provide children throughout the area access to follow-up care and eliminating the burden of traveling for medical care.

"This partnership was developed to help overcome the barriers for families that need to access specialty health care services. The distance to reach larger health centers often places restrictions on access to essential health care services. Union Hospital's Richard G. Lugar Center for Rural Health, a leader in the provision of telemedicine services, took these steps to expand its current telemedicine program with the hospital," said Stephanie Laws, RN, BSN, project associate at the Lugar Center.

Local children who need follow-up care with Shriners Hospitals can now go to their appointment in a Terre Haute medical office. They will be able to see and speak with their doctor in Cincinnati through a television-like computer monitor. Local Zorah Shriners initially purchased the equipment for the telemedicine program. Other donations were used to secure the monitors and computer equipment.
